Prom dresses represent so much to today's teens and quite often their parents as well. Most teen girls dream of picking the absolute perfect prom dress and having a night to remember for years, even a lifetime to come. As parents we all want our children to have special memories that will last a lifetime as much as we want them to be happy and safe. Helping your teen select a stunning prom dress can be one of the greatest bonding experiences between a mother and a daughter and there is no time like the present to being searching for that perfect dress.

One of the first things you want to do when selecting the ultimate prom dress is to make sure that you are selecting from colors that compliment your daughter's skin tone and coloring. Not all dresses are created equal nor are all colors created for every girl. It doesn't matter how stunning the dress is if it doesn't look good on your princess. It isn't always easy to tell your baby (she'll always be your baby even if you have 12 more and you both live till she's ninety) that a color doesn't do her justice, much less convince her that you are correct. For this I recommend a day of beauty and a consultation with someone from Beauty Control or another cosmetic company that deals with colors and what colors compliment your skin best. This could also give you a head start on cosmetics to accentuate the dress as well.

There are many other things to consider when selecting a prom dress as well. Among those are height, the type of shoes she'll want to wear (suggest comfortable shoes or at the very least slip some Isotoner's into her handbag before she heads out the door), her neckline, the jewelry she prefers to wear, her body shape, and her hair. All of these things can balance, over balance, or under balance a prom dress so you need to have a mental image of the finished product as you shop.

It's also important that you choose your battles when it comes to picking the perfect prom dress. This is an important decision for most teens, it's been a while for some of us, but I'm sure you'll remember if you think really hard. It's also an emotional decision at that point in your daughter's life. Save the big battle for curfew time rather than the dress itself unless it's something that blatantly goes against your values or your budget.

It's also important to keep in mind and remind her as well that you do not have to spend your life's savings on a prom dress, save the big spending for another dress that is hopefully a few years down the road and even more important in reality. Reality checks are a good idea throughout the prom dress buying process for both mom and daughter. This is a highly emotional and tense time for both of you. For mom, baby girl is growing up and for daughter; mom still wants me to be Shirley Temple. Keep these thoughts in mind, be sensitive to each other and find the most perfect prom dresses in the world from which to make your selection.

Many teenage girls will find themselves in the midst of a trauma when asked or nominated for the homecoming court. Next to prom, this is one of the most memorable occasions in a teen girl's life. Much planning should go into the thoughts regardinghomecoming hairstyles . After all, all eyes will be on you for those few moments, and as you grow older you will have the pictures as even greater reminders of years past.

Throughout the past several years, girls tend to look for homecoming hairstyles that are traditional and that offer them a sophisticated look. The most popular of these homecoming hairstyles is the "up-do". Many stylists may offer their advice regarding your hair type and facial structure. Stylist's may opt to braid, curl, tie, knot, or pin the hair in place. Variations of the up-do may incorporate hairpieces and hair accessories. Some girl's may like to wear rhinestones and jewels to add glimmer and shine under the lights. Other girls may find themselves opting for up-dos that have sweeping and flowing locks. If you're saying to yourself that your hair is too short for an up-do, never fear; hair extensions and hair pieces offer even the shortest of trends this up-do option.

One important factor to consider when contemplating the up-do is your facial structure. If your facial structure is round or square; wear your up-do high on the crown to elongate your face; if your face is thin and more rectangular; opt forhomecoming hairstyles that are fuller on the sides and lack crown height. Depending upon your forehead height, you may wish to wear bangs. Girls that have longer foreheads need bangs; those with shorter foreheads may wish to wear their hair pulled completely back off the face.

Many girls find themselves thumbing through magazines and looking on web sites to find options for homecoming hairstyles. Some of the more popular web sites offer virtual styling; simply choose your facial structure, the length of your current hairstyle and click on different up-dos that fit. However, to ensure that a homecoming hairstyle is really right for you; you may want to visit the salon prior to the special event. There's nothing like a "trial run" to ensure you that the choice you made was for the best.

More important, choose homecoming hairstyle's that are comfortable and suitable for your personality. Due to the huge amount of changes occurring daily in a teenage girl's life; the added burden of an uncomfortable homecoming hairstyle isn't worth the pain and anguish. Sometimes simplicity is the best advice.

With prom just around the corner, most high school students are trying to make serious plans in order to make this night memorable for them and their dates. Most girls can hardly wait to show off their beautiful dresses or get a look at their guys dressed to the nines. For this special occasion, learning about current fashion trends provides a bit of an edge in choosing the proper dress and accessories for this very special occasion. While many will spend hours, days, even weeks agonizing over the best or most beautiful dress, when the truth is there is so much more to prom than the dress you will wear.

If you have already found your perfect prom dress, that's great but the work doesn't end with the selection of your dress. You must first make sure you find the perfect shoe to wear with your dress. While fashion is important, the most important aspect of finding the perfect prom shoe is comfort. It doesn't matter how great the shoe looks if you can't dance in it. Heels are a wise choice for prom as they emphasize the shape of your legs and "force" you to use better posture. Just make sure they fit well and are comfortable.

You will also want a small delicate purse of handbag for prom rather than your overstuffed every day bag. Your purse for prom only needs to be large enough to hold emergency funds, stockings, lipstick, cell phone, camera, and a few safety pins. If you can, try to find a purse that matches your shoes and dress.

Now that the biggies are out of the way you can concentrate on the small touches that make prom night special: your jewelry. You will want jewelry that matches the personal theme you are trying to set for the evening. If you are going for elegance you will want understated simple jewelry, if you are going for a fun theme with bright colors you might want to find jewelry that is fun and perfect to match your mood. Most importantly, select jewelry that you will wear again at some point in your life. Your jewelry is the icing on your cake for the prom so you do not have to overdo it in order to make an impact.

If you feel a little exposed in your prom dress or are worried about a chill in the air as the night wears on, you can opt to wear a shawl or wrap that compliments your prom dress. This can be a beautiful addition to your prom attire, especially considering that it is not exactly appropriate to wear a jacket for warmth. Your shawl or wrap is an excellent choice for added modesty as well as warmth on your prom night.

Makeup is often one of those things you can have too much of. The latest fashion trends are all the same. They all say that less is more. Having just enough make up gives you that amazing look you are after without making it look fake or overdone. As you consider the options you have for makeup for prom, keep in mind a few tricks and tips that can help you to look as natural as you would like to, but covering those flaws and enhancing your beauty. You do not need a lot of makeup to create a great look.

For the first step, choose the right concealers. On young skin, it is unlikely that you need a large amount of foundation, which simply clogs pores. Rather, use a concealer to hide any blemishes and to mask any discoloration. If you do use a foundation, match it to your skin tone well. Do not go with a too dark foundation, as it will look bad. You want to keep your skin even and using a natural foundation is always important. Once you have this in place, you can choose just a few more items to put on.

Choose an area of your face to highlight. This is likely to be your best feature. Do you want your eyes to stand out or do you want your lips too stand out. You can even highlight your cheeks if you would like to. When you select just one location to highlight, the result is fantastic. Let us assume that you select the keys. To keep them natural looking, do not put too much eye makeup on. Rather, go for a light layer of colors that really help your eyes to pop. Use a blend of three shades of eye shadow. Use eyeliner that is a lighter color.

For the other areas of your face, choose appropriate colors to create a natural look. For example, the lips do not have to stand out. Use a lip liner and lipstick that is just slighting different from your lip's natural color. For your cheeks, choose a color of blush that is just slighting darker than your skin tone. Apply it just to the cheekbones in a sweeping motion. This is where your face would normally blush.

When you keep colors and tones in check, you create a very beautiful, natural look. You will want your makeup to look great on your prom night, so give yourself the chance to try out a few different combinations in the weeks leading up to prom. Remember, this is a special night, so you do want to invest in a look that is stunningly beautiful. Going for a natural, but well-done look is key here.
